CEREC Same Day Crowns
Over the years, advancements in dental technology have made necessary dental procedures quicker, less painful, and more convenient for the patient. One of these advancements is CEREC, which stands for Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramic. It is an advanced type of 3D technology used in digital impressions dentistry.
CEREC has a multitude of uses in the dental industry and we use it to create perfectly fitting and visually pleasing crowns. We start out by taking pictures of the tooth that needs the crown and the surrounding area. The cutting-edge digital impressions technology allows us to create a virtual, computer-generated replica of both the hard and soft tissues of your mouth. In just a few minutes we have a clear and accurate impression of your tooth without the use of standard impression materials that are inconvenient and time-consuming. The impression is transferred to a computer and is used to create restorations without the need for stone models. The virtual impressions are then created out of a solid ceramic block.
The CEREC crown creation process is mesmerizing to watch; the milling machine sculpts the 3D crown from the digital image. It generally takes about 10 minutes for the whole process to be complete. After the machine is done, we add the finishing touches to make sure it fits perfectly between the adjacent teeth.
There are several benefits to CEREC over traditional crowns. The procedure allows for improved image/impression quality resulting in better-fitting restorations. Less time spent at the dentist, no need for bulky impression materials, reduced possibility of human errors and there is less waste which is better for the environment.
